A Taste of Philly (Food Truck)
On Friday, April 05, 2024, A Taste of Philly joined us for Food Truck Friday at work. A Taste of Philly admittedly experienced some technical difficulties with its generators, but shortly afterwards people were lined up to get their scrumptious morsels. Their offerings varied from the classic philly cheesesteak sub, all the way to philly cheesesteak eggrolls. I won't go over the entire menu here. You can look them up and see what all they offered.
I stepped out of my comfort zone. I was torn between eggrolls and something called the Dirty Dog. My question and concern with the eggrolls was the size vs the price. A single eggroll was $6.00 or 2/$10.00. The eggrolls came in different flavors ranging from savory to sweet. I ultimately for the sake of this blog and because it was payday and I had the cash to burn in the name of science, uh I mean blogging, yes that's it; it was for the sake of blogging. Ahemmmmm....... where was I? Oh yeah. I opted for the Dirty Dog. The Dirty Dog was a 1/4lb all beef hotdog smothered with cheesesteak including all the goodies like onions and peppers, etc. The only strange thing was when ordering it, the lady asked me if I wanted ketchup on it. Uhhhhh......no thanks. I'm not a fan of that "fruit smoothie" (tomato is a fruit). I only eat ketchup on a select number of things. Even if I were a fan of ketchup, I don't feel like it belongs on philly cheesesteak. Anyhow, the hotdog came in very sturdy sub roll. I feel like that was very smart considering there is nothing more disappointing than getting a yummy something or other only to have it fall apart and stain your shirt. So I was happy for that. True to its word, it had cheesesteak smothering it. It was interesting for sure. In the end though, I felt that the tastes did not mesh well together. Just a personal preference. It's definitely worth trying though.
Pictured beside the Dirty Dog above are the two eggrolls I opted to get. I was a little disappointed at the price to size ratio. The eggrolls were no bigger than that of you typical Chinese restaurant fare. I opted for the flavors of Sausage Dip on one and Strawberry Cheesecake on the other. The sausage dip was pretty good. It had the perfect texture and was very flavorful.
The Strawberry Cheesecake one while tasty, was not anything special. It reminded me of a Toaster Strudel to be honest. Not only that, but it was also very volatile. I believe this is the first time I have ever been assaulted by my food. Upon taking a bite, the filling (with the temperature of boiling lava) squirted at my face with force, some even making it into my nostril. I guess it was a small price to pay for lunch and a sugar facial lol
The texture of the eggrolls were perfect. Nothing I hate worse than an overfried eggroll. These were perfectly cooked.
Overall, A Taste of Philly was pretty good.
