Sam's Club (Sushi)
Surprise! No food truck post this week. This week's food truck is a repeater. (A Taste of Philly). So this week I bring you Sam's Club. I have a love hate relationship with Sam's Club. They lure you in with free samples of yummy goodness, not to mention their very affordable rotisserie chickens. I mean who can beat that price for a whole chicken that you don't even have to cook yourself! So anyway, I may possibly late to the game on this one. I don't know who long the sushi station has been in there, but I know it has been a while. As someone who loves sushi, I can tell you that there is a stigma on sushi sold at grocery stores, and rightfully so. Most of the time sushi sold in stores lacks in quality, texture, and taste. Up until now, the only place I have had luck in finding good grocery store sushi is Lowes Foods (and the quality of that varies on location). This was until yesterday....... yesterday I found myself on a work related errand. I had to order a cake for a work function coming up end of next month. I went right around lunch time. My thinking at the time was I could score a hot dog combo on the way out. Instead though, I found myself intrigued by their sushi selection. Before I go any further, I do not eat the sushi with the raw fish on it. Not all sushi has raw fish. Most people hear the word sushi and their minds default to raw fish. The word sushi actually means rice. Anyhow, I digress. They had a pack of an assortment of four different flavors (20 pieces total) for around 15.00. If you know anything about sushi you will know that, that is a really good price. I was still skeptical as the wasabi looked a mixture of green and brown. I was brave. I got back to my office and dug in. I was pleasantly surprised. Note, I did not touch the wasabi. But the sushi rolls themselves were pretty tasty. They were fresh, the rice was still moist and not dried out. It was everything a sushi roll should be. Was it restaurant quality? No. However, there is a saying that you get what you pay for. I never expected it to be restaurant quality. But for what it was, it was pretty dang tasty. And the price point was good too. The presentation was also pretty. My picture does not do it justice as it kind of got slung around in my car. If you are in the mood for sushi and do not want to pay a fortune at a restaurant, check out the sushi station at Sam's Club. You won't be disappointed.
