Midtown Cafe & Dessertery

Greetings fellow food lovers!  As you may have noticed, this week's post is a day early.  I have a lot to do tomorrow and wanted to make sure that you had your weekly fix.  Important even more so due to the fact that there MIGHT not be a post next week.   I'm taking some time off work next week and I'm going to be very busy trying to cram five days of work into three.  Next Friday is my birthday and I am unsure if I will be posting anything on there that day.  So this week I am leaving you with a good one.

I love this restaurant.  However, due to its location being on the opposite side of town, I seldom get to go there; no real reason other than I'd like to have an additional reason to be on that side of town. I did get to go there the other week during a work meeting.  Additionally, I also used Door Dash to order food from them one day when I walked out of the house without my lunch by mistake.  I'm human.  So I have three things to review for you this week.

The first item is the item that I DoorDashed. It is the Thai Crunch Turkey Wrap.  I opted for this because I have had something similar from Jimmy Johns.  This one blew Jimmy Johns version out of the water.  KABOOM!!!!!!  It was really tasty.  It held up well during delivery.  It was not too messy either.  It was full of yummy flavor with the perfect ratio of ingredients.  What really made it was the chili garlic mayo.  It also came with a side.  I chose the fruit cup.  Let me tell you why.  This is one of the few places I have found that actually give you real fruit.  I know you are wondering "real fruit"?????  By that I mean they give you the good stuff.  They don't add a ton of nasty apples for filler (I'm looking at you Chic Fil A).  In fact, there weren't any apples at all.   I don't know about you, but when I'm paying a decent amount for a fruit cup (because healthy food costs more ugh), I don't want some cheap old apples making up the majority of the fruit.  The fruit bowl here was comprised of the good stuff.  Lots of different berries, pineapple, etc.

At the work function, I was able to try an appetizer, Fried Green Tomatoes.  There aren't too many places that offer fried green tomatoes.  In fact, the last time I had fried green tomatoes was in 2012 at a Cracker Barrel in Savannah, GA.  Unfortunately, these were not as good as those.  Don't get me wrong, they  were still pretty tasty and I would order them again given the chance.  They come with a spicy ranch to dip them in.  I personally, am not a fan of that spicy ranch.  But if you ask your service nicely, I'm sure they can bring you a regular ranch if you are picky like me lol.   They also have a BLT that has a fried green tomato on it.  I did not order that.  Someone at our table did and it looked pretty tasty.

Now for my ultimate favorite thing that this restaurant serves......... and I will not Door Dash this one because in my opinion it does not travel well.  I speak from experience.  Depending on who is delivering the food it might be cold by the time it gets to you.  This dish is not good cold.  So if you order this, get it there or to go (at least if you deliver it yourself you can put it in a heat bag or ensure it gets straight home).   Okay you ready?  Shrimp & Grits.  There are two restaurants here that have good shrimp and grits.  This one is my top pick.  It has the perfect ratio of ingredients.  The taste is not spicy, but definitely not bland at all.  Personally, whenever I order it, I ask them to add some andouille sausage to it.  It takes it to the next level, but it is also perfect as is.

Now for dessert........ I don't think I have any pictures of this.  I might stand corrected though, I will have to look.  You can not go wrong with their 5-Flavor Pound Cake.  OMG!!!!!   That means a lot coming from me.  I don't really like cake.  I'll eat it once in a while if I'm at a birthday party or something.  It's a texture thing for me.  Plus not all cake is created equal.  This cake is moist and delicious.  Their other desserts are great too from what I have heard.  But the majority of the people at our table ordered the 5-Flavor Pound Cake.
